Stillwater Black came together in 1991 when Chris Thayer met Ahmed and Sam Pierstorff while playing in the pit band for a high school musical production. Issac McCorkell was quickly recruited on drums and the band recorded its first EP, The Last Virtuous Lady of Athens.

In 1995 they signed with Cleaves Entertainment, a now-defunct independent label based out of Southern California's Inland Empire. Stillwater Black recorded their debut LP, Adam. They played frequently with local and national acts including Dishwalla, Save Ferris, Reel Big Fish, and IE punk/ska mainstays, The Skeletones.

In 1997 the members parted ways and the project lay dormant for two decades.

Holy promos, Batman!

Chris is a big comic book guy and I know that my brother Sam and I grew up on Batman reruns, so we'll open this by paying our respects to the family of Adam West.

9/19/28-6/9/2017

The Batman show hit that sweet spot between engaging entertainment and absolute absurdity. This past Sunday we shot our first ever lyric video, aiming for a similar target.

Call time was 8 am at Chris' place in Redlands. We loaded up his cameras and a few props and drove to a location Chris and I had scouted a couple of weeks before. His incredibly gifted daughter Phoebe came along to assist.

It was a beautiful morning, slightly overcast which worked very well for our story. We set up, got our shots, packed up, and made our way back to Chris' place to start laying out the clips and building the video.

That's Chris and Issac doing some serious editing right there, which is so obvious because Chris' keyboard is glowing red with all the badassness.

We love what we got. You'll get the lyrics and a little visual interest to boot. Very indie, very cool. And it's our first ever Stillwater Black video. I'm definitely inspired to up the production at some point and do a proper music video. Maybe somebody out there can reach out and make our band like your film thesis or something.

Or maybe we'll just keep gunning on our own. I have to say that there is nothing in the world like creating with Chris and Issac. There's an openness and a freshness and a vitality and an honest-to-God sense of purpose that absolutely infuses our time together. Great stuff just bubbles up and we have a really good time in the process.

We seriously cannot wait to share this song with you. Longshot, 7/1.

Catch Chris this coming Friday night (6/16) with Sister Hazel. And there's a good chance this coming weekend that we'll be back in the studio tracking drums for some more new music.
